SFCU Celebrates Successful Grand Opening of New Liberty Branch

Sentinel Federal Credit Union proudly celebrated the grand opening of its new Liberty Branch with a successful ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 21. The event welcomed community members, local leaders, Sentinel FCU board of directors, supervisory committee, and staff, the building architects, HTG, and construction company, Gustafson Builders, to commemorate this exciting milestone.

A highlight of the event was the unveiling of a stunning mural by artist Aaron Pearcy. The mural, which showcases the history and impact of Ellsworth Air Force Base and the Box Elder community, was revealed to an enthusiastic crowd. Pearcy was in attendance to mingle with attendees and share his artistic vision and the inspiration behind the piece, further adding to the significance of the celebration.

The event also featured a formal ribbon-cutting with the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce, tours of the new facility, refreshments, and giveaways. Attendees had the opportunity to experience the branch’s modern amenities, and welcoming atmosphere, all designed to provide an improved banking experience while maintaining the credit union’s commitment to personalized service and financial well-being.

“We were honored to celebrate this special occasion with our members and the community,” said Dorothy Voorhees, CEO of Sentinel Federal Credit Union. “The Liberty Branch represents our continued dedication to support a growing Box Elder community. The unveiling of Aaron Pearcy’s mural was a particularly special moment, as it beautifully reflects the history and values of the community we serve. We wanted to offer a special thank you inside the walls of this building.”

The building’s design mimics an airplane hangar, paying homage to Sentinel’s roots on Ellsworth Air Force Base, where it was founded 70 years ago in 1955. Its proximity to the South Dakota Air and Space Museum makes the design choice especially fitting.

Sentinel FCU continues to be headquartered on Ellsworth AFB. “We take great pride in our origins on Base and in honoring the legacy of those who have served, protected, and contributed to this community,” added Voorhees. “The Liberty Branch represents not just an expansion of our services, but also a symbol of our dedication to being a trusted financial partner—one that stands strong and unwavering, just like our Sentinel name suggests.”

Sentinel Federal Credit Union extends its gratitude to everyone who attended and contributed to making the grand opening a success.

Sentinel FCU was awarded the Excellence in Business Award by the Box Elder Chamber of Commerce last month. The recognition is for Sentinel FCU’s commitment to excellence in business growth and community involvement.

“We have several credit unions that got lost in the mix during a move–our bad. However, out of all of those credit unions, SFCU went OUT OF THEIR WAY to ensure we knew our account was dormant and helped us through the process of getting the account back on track. They also refunded every fee taken for dormant status. After losing more money than I’d like to admit from other institutions, I cannot tell you how much I appreciate the customer service of Sentinel FCU.”

“I have been using Sentinel for almost 30 years, and my family has been just as long! I purposely make the extra drive to the Radar Hill Branch with Nate working there! Not only has he always been on the ball of my personal account, but my business account! He has resolved issues with other banks in a timely manner when he didn’t have to! Every time I go on he always has a smiling face and is easy to work with.”

“If you’re in the Rapid City area and you’re looking to drop the elbow off the top rope, Macho Man style, then look to Sentinel Federal Credit Union! Their customer service is off the hook and when you call you never get a robot or an automated answering machine! I don’t think I’ll trust another big bank with my money for as long as I live! By the way, I don’t even live in South Dakota!”
